The ‘10 Years of ASP’ exhibition convenes selected artists who were award recipients of soundpocket’s Artist Support Programme (ASP) over the past ten years. The sixteen artists participating in the exhibition come from different art sectors and are currently in different stages & states of their lives and creative careers. Some of them have created new works for the exhibition, and some chose to exhibit their earlier that have not had the opportunity to be exhibited in Hong Kong. The exhibition does not seek or emphasize the theme of “sound art” alone. Participating artists need not be limited to sound and/or listening as their creative starting point. Instead, they hope that the audience will recognize this group’s diversity of creation.
In the past ten years, ASP has provided resource, artistic, and social support to the selected artists. The program encourages and assists selected artists to have dialogues with people from different sectors, push them to continue self-reflection, and maintain an open knowledge environment to establish learning groups with previous candidates to share knowledge and do collective creation. Even after the completion of the annual program, ASP will continue to carry out these activities with artists so that deliberations can continue. They believe that this kind of direct support can help artists broaden their horizons, actively practice creation, and make their creation rooted in Hong Kong’s art culture.
’10 Years of ASP’ is not a retrospect but rather a prospect. This exhibition encourages artists to try different roles and forms of participation, it encourages the audience to re-recognize this group of artists through works involving different media such as installations, paintings, videos, photography, and even performing arts. In fact, apart from being artists, they also play different roles in the art circle where they support each other.
