Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department’s “Great Music” series, “When Petals Fall in Serenity” – Atmospheric Music Theatre by Law Wing-fai is a new production which will be staged in December. Poetry, songs, dance, music and visual media combine to create a highly engaging multidisciplinary and musical performance.
Describing the performance, director, composer and librettist Law Wing-fai says, “‘When Petals Fall in Serenity’ represents an insight into life. If we see flowers blooming and petals falling as the most natural phenomena in nature, we can transcend common misgivings and face any rise and fall, birth and death with level-headedness and optimism. We will be able to put our minds at ease and deal with obstacles and setbacks that come our way as we journey through life. It is with this in mind that the atmospheric music theatre ‘When Petals Fall in Serenity’ was conceived.
“It has no storyline or character-related emotions, only a mood of spiritual serenity. It is, essentially, a stylised concert. Convoluted, introspective, the music highlights an undefined space for interpretation. It incorporates the Tibetan singing bowl, vocals, Chinese orchestral and solo instrumental music, interpolated with poem, dance, lighting and media images. Texts and images are merged into one to create a multi-disciplinary showcase of poetry, songs, dance, music and visual media. Within a defined boundary, a unique dimension is created, which offers a glimpse of an aesthetic texture that explores artistic depths,” he added.
