Traversing historical times and heaven on earth through music
This is a concert that features some of the most preeminent figures in the Chinese music world today. Zhu Yaochang, famous erhu artist from China’s south, is dubbed “a treasure of humankind” because of his legendary playing on the concert stage. He will be playing such gems in erhu music as Mooring by the Maple Bridge at Night and Spring in Jiangnan. Yu Hongmei, an erhu artist who hails from China’s north, will give engaging interpretations of A Spray of Flowers and Resonating Strings at the Northern Frontier. Wong Chi-ching, former HKCO Pipa Principal and a leading name in contemporary pipa music, has been invited to return to perform King Chu Doffs His Armour, a dramatic narration of one of the most famous battles in Chinese history (22/4). Zhao Chong, current Pipa Principal of the China National Orchestra, will perform his own ingeniously conceived work, Apsaras of the Silk Road, which recreates the golden era of the Tang Dynasty (23/4). Chen Yi-wei, Sheng Principal of the HKCO, will perform The Solar Planet by Wang I-Yu, a rising star among Taiwanese composers famous for his exceptionally inspired works. This is a concert mingling classics with contemporary creations that would launch you through historic China and scenic landscapes with breathtaking beauty!
