Description
The Hong Kong International Operatic Singing Competition 2018 (HKIOSC 2018) was the first major event of its kind scheduled to have taken place in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China.
24 candidates among 148 applicants from 25 countries were selected by the International Jury, chaired by Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, on the recommendation by the Preliminary Selection Committee to compete in the Semi-Final Round on 29-30 June 2018. 10 candidates were chosen to compete in the Final Round with orchestral accompaniment by Hong Kong Virtuosi under the baton of Lio Kuokman on 2 July 2018. The HKIOSC 2018 concluded with Margrethe Friedham (Norway) winning the First Prize, Johanne Højlund (Denmark) taking the Second Prize, and Chen Yibao (China) taking the Third Prize and the Audience Prize.
