Artists In The Neighbourhood Scheme V: The Drawing Observatory- Works By Lam Tung-Pang
Description
Description
Is Hong Kong really a concrete jungle and a cultural desert? Are we all so busy that we believe culture and art are just too abstract for our hectic lifestyles?
Lam Tung-pang observes and explores all walks of life and then, drawing on more than 10 years of creative experience and working determinedly in multiple genres, uses art to respond to his surroundings and culture. This exhibition showcases Lam’s works inspired by his personal experience, such as “Condition Series”, which examines the themes of conservation and the environment, as well as his latest works from 2011, including landscape paintings that make reference to traditional Chinese culture and a collection of sketches of displays found in museums and antique shops in Hong Kong.
As well as finding inspiration in his meanderings through the city’s streets, alleys and museums, Lam has also visited Tin Shui Wai to understand the life and landscape of the community there. With the support of St. James’ Settlement, he collaborated with children in the community to create a large painting that will be showcased in the exhibition. Please join us as we discover how this young artist uses his experiences to reflect the integration of culture, art and life.
