Leila Hekmat: I Was Not Invited
Visual Arts

Description
Description
“I Was Not Invited” by Leila Hekmat is a site-specific musical performance created especially for Duddell’s Hong Kong, which tells the story of the two characters: a singer and pianist. With a song cycle inspired by Franz Schubert’s ‘Winterreisse’, Barthe’s ‘A Lover’s Discourse’, the poems of Mallarmé and Baroque costumes, this special performance is a development from the initial piece performed at Le Zèbre in Paris and at Ballhaus in Berlin, and centres around the search for humour through the darkness of human suffering. Following the opening performance, Duddell’s present the solo exhibition of Hekmat featuring costumes and photographs. The performance and exhibition are co-presented by Duddell’s Hong Kong and Galerie Isabella Bortolozzi, Berlin.
