Description

Description

Suo Yutong composes her paintings with rendering of small hooks, thousands or may be tens of thousands of them. The compositions seemingly are all in her heart and she just groups these strokes accordingly into decipherable imageries.

In her recent paintings, Yutong has expanded to include parallel and converging lines as well. Dense and sparse, layer upon layer, she painstakingly encodes the complexity of her creative world and builds bridges to the viewers.

Whatever imageries in her paintings are, in fact, for the benefit of the common viewers who want points of reference to focus their attention. For Yutong herself, it is the process of finishing each work that matters most. It is from those tedious and repetitive strokes she derives reflection and spiritual cleansing.

Suo says that her works have much more than the mere imageries. She has instilled in them an attitude of life, entanglements of conflicting forces and personal records of struggles against the mundane world around her. The exhibits represent the eventual serenity that she has attained from composing and completing each of them and she is eager to share.

Suo Yutong was a graduate of the Department of Oil Painting of the China Academy of Art and she completed the main postgraduate courses of the same academy a year later in 2000. She has worked as a full time artist in Beijing since 2004.
