Academy Dance: Opus 16: Point of Departure

Description

Description

Dancers, string quartets…..and bicycles! Another bright and shining season from the Academy’s School of Dance: reaching high, pushing the boundaries: bold, brave and exciting! It’s an exceptional line-up: four powerful works from four first-class choreographers, our talented young dancers honed to perfect pitch, music from one of the Academy’s top string quartets – not to mention a bicycle of the iconic Flying Pigeon kind! New Zealand-born choreographer Cameron McMillantakes the question of what it is to be a ballet dancer in the 21st century as the starting point for his sharp and edgy Corpus/Corps, while ex-DV8 Physical Theatre dancer Rob Tannion’s Beautiful Ghosts pushes its dancers to the limit: it’s fearless and confronting – yet poignant and moving. 2015 Hong Kong Dance Alliance Award nominee Christine Gouzelis draws on some well-known fables and fairy-tales to reveal another, darker side of fantasy-land in her stormy Echoing Woods; and last but by no means least, inaugural Dean of Dance Master Artist Xing Liang gives new life to his 2007 Life, Death and the Twilight – complete with that (silver) bicycle of the iconic Flying Pigeon kind!
