Description
Description
“The Ghost Seller”
A contemporary comic jingju performance
An allegorical tale about authenticity and deceitfulness
“The Ghost Seller” by the GuoGuang Opera Company of Taiwan is an experimental, modern interpretation of an allegorical Chinese tale, in which a man tries to sell a make-believe goat at a market. The performance is a lively, skillful blend of traditional Jingju artistry, mime, slapstick, and interaction with the audience.
After premiering and touring to wide acclaim in Taiwan in 2014, the company presents the first performances of the show in Hong Kong.
“His Butterflies (Version 80)”
A romantic contemporary musical production
A bold and innovative reworking of classic masterpieces
“His Butterflies (Version 80)” brings together seven emerging Cantonese opera actors in a romantic contemporary musical production. Set against a minimal backdrop, the performance consists of a montage of songs written by the legendary Cantonese opera master Tong Tik-sang, and presents excerpts from the full-length version of “His Butterflies” staged to great acclaim in the opening programme for the New Wing of the Ko Shan Theatre in 2014.
