Description
Opera Hong Kong Summer School has offered youngsters the opportunity to perform concerts from a well-known repertoire of musical worth and humour since its inception in 2009. The school aims to foster youngster’s creativity and expressiveness, as well as enhance their observational powers and musical appreciation through three weeks of intensive training by its professional coaches.
This year the Summer School will present Hairspray Jr. The family-friendly musical, piled bouffant-high with laughter, romance, and memorably tuneful songs, is adapted from the original Broadway version which won 8 Tony Awards including Best Musical. The story not only charms the audience with its wit and energy, but also by its beautiful message of acceptance and pursuit for equality for all.

It’s 1962 in Baltimore. Spunky plus-size teen Tracy Turnblad decides to dance her way onto the “Corny Collins Show”. Ridiculed by the girls in the show during the audition, Tracy is rejected because of her size. Inspired by Seaweed’s dance moves, her new-found groove eventually wins her a spot in the show. In her new role of local star, Tracy uses her newfound fame to advocate for racial integration, though she faces bullying from the show’s producer Velma and her wicked daughter Amber. But through perseverance and determination, together with teenage heartthrob Link, ‘Negro Day’ DJ Motormouth, her best friends and parents, Tracy storms onto Corny’s show just as Amber is about to be crowned as the first Ms Teenage Hairspray…
