Monkey – Huang Yongyu’s “Zodiac Series” Exhibition

Description

Description

This year, introducing the “Monkey”, Huang utilises a rich and profound artistic culture, revealing a distinctive personal style as well as a sense of modern aestheticism. The inspiration behind the sculpture stems from the famous moral of the “Three Wise Monkeys”. However, the artist reinterprets the proverb—“Look not at what is contrary to propriety; listen not to what is contrary to propriety; speak not what is contrary to propriety”—in a humorous manner, depicting three courageous monkeys exaggerating the actions of “looking, listening and speaking”. Huang’s “Monkey” not only represents wit and intelligence, but also conveys the artist’s views towards the open-mindedness and diversity of this new era.
