Urged by a premonition that she would leave Hong Kong one day, artist Miki Lam would like to make her presence felt before her unknown departure date.

Past travel experiences prompted Lam to question her memories and understanding towards Hong Kong as her “root”, so she started sketching the passing scenery during commutes to record traces of the cityscape. Layers of these fleeting moments she captured combined to form an overall impression. In an era which camera replaces our eyes, it seems that people do not need to remember every image by heart. Although memories are unreliable, the combination of objective and subjective experiences constructs our understanding towards the city.
