Description
Composer, conductor and educationist, the famous erhu maestro, Tong Leung-tak (1938 – 2010) was a leading light of his generation in Chinese traditional music.
2018 marks the 80th anniversary of Maestro Tong’s birth. It is also the 55th anniversary of the first All China Erhu Competition which was part of the Shanghai Spring Music Festival of 1963.
On 27 May, former winners of the first Shanghai Spring Music Festival –Lu Rirong and Shen Fengquan and their second-generation mentees – Shen Duomi, Zhao Jianhua, Liu Guangyu, Wang Fangliang, Hou Shih-chieh and Chen Jun, will join together with world famous conductor who are also friend of Maestro Tong – Qu Chunquan. They will be appearing on the stage of the Hong Kong City Hall for A Musical Gala that Spans the Generations – A Concert of Erhu Music. Together with the joint orchestra of the Hong Kong Chinese Instrumental Music Association which is made up of all the major Chinese orchestras in Hong Kong, they will perform several classics and perennial audience favourite such as Torrents of the River, The Great Wall Capriccio, Meditation during Confinement in Sickness and The Galloping Battle Horses.
