Li Bai: The Immortal Poet
Xiqu

Description
Description
This is Cantonese opera unlike any other. Harking back to older traditions before romantic stories dominated the cannon in the mid-20th century China, this masterpiece tells the epic legend of Li Bai (701-762) – sublime poet and successful politician of the Tang Dynasty.
Featuring five key episodes from Li Bai’s life, the title role makes great demands on the performer physically and vocally in order to capture the poet’s inspirations and his fondness for wine and its elevating effect.
Li Bai: The Immortal Poet features a star-studded cast, with the celebrate Yau Sing-po in the title role. Yau restored this important work and brought it back to the Cantonese opera stage two decades ago. He takes the helm once more both creatively and on stage, applying his vocal mastery and physical dexterity to conjure up the inspired drunkenness for which Li Bai is famous for.
